To obtain the maximum service life of a rope, re-lubrication will be required at regular intervals which will be dictated by various factors. The re-lubrication interval is dependent on the type of lubricant applied, the conditions and frequency of use, and realistically can only be determined through regular inspections.
There are several techniques for re-lubrication; the most common are "painting" and "swabbing“. However, penetration of the lubricant down to the core of the wire rope is rarely, if ever, obtained with these techniques. The most appropriate application technique available which provides good penetration of the lubricant into the rope, is with a high pressure lubricator.
The degree of penetration achievable with any technique is also dependent on the type of lubricant used - Ropelife AA has been specifically designed to work in a pressure fed system. Ropelife AA has excellent penetration, anti corrosion and extreme pressure properties and has The Royal Navy and NATO approvals.
